The 3 Steps For A Restaurant To Start A Retail Product Line

    JustinBy JustinAugust 6, 2024Updated:August 6, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Taking a restaurant’s favorite dishes and turning them into products people can buy in stores is a great way to expand your business. Many restaurants have started doing this, selling sauces, seasonings, and other items that fans can enjoy at home. The restaurant industry is changing fast, thanks to technology and new dining habits.

With food delivery apps, online ordering, and digital menus, it’s easier than ever for people to get their favorite meals without leaving home. This convenience has changed how people think about dining, making it important for restaurants to offer more than just a place to eat. In this article, we will go over how you can take advantage of these changes by offering a retail experience for your products.

1 – Figure out the logistics

If you already have ideas about what products you want to sell in retail locations, the most important step after that is to figure out the logistics of getting them to market.

You have a choice between making everything in-house or teaming up with a co-packer. Making products in-house gives you more control but can be expensive and requires a lot of space and equipment. A co-packer can handle production for you, making it easier to scale up without huge costs, but you might have less say in how everything is done.

Getting your products to customers, especially when they need to stay fresh, is super important. For items that can spoil quickly, same-day delivery is often a must. Services like pittsburghcouriers.com can help with this since they have fast delivery options.

    2 – Marketing and launch

Getting the word out about your new product line is key to a great launch. Start by creating some buzz before the big day. Use your restaurant’s social media, website, and email list to give your customers a sneak peek at what’s coming.

Share behind-the-scenes shots, little teasers, and maybe even a countdown to build excitement. You can also reward your loyal customers with early access or special discounts.

On launch day, think about doing something special to catch people’s attention. In-store tastings are a fun way to let people try your products and encourage them to buy. You might also team up with local influencers or food bloggers to help spread the word. This can attract new customers who haven’t visited your restaurant before.

    3 – Scale things up

Once your product line is up and running, the next step is to grow that part of your business. Start by keeping a close watch on sales and listening to customer feedback. Notice which products are flying off the shelves and which ones might need a tweak.

Also, consider exploring new ways to get your products out there. If you started small, like selling in local stores or online, you might want to think about bigger retail partnerships or even going national. Expanding your reach can really increase sales, but it takes careful planning and good logistics.
