How to vet a supplier, influencer or brand account from its Instagram profile photo

    OliviaBy OliviaOctober 22, 2026No Comments6 Mins Read

A new supplier sends a quote through Instagram DMs, an influencer pitches a paid collaboration, or a customer forwards a message from an account that looks a lot like yours. Before anyone wires a deposit or signs anything, open the account’s picture at full size in an insta dp viewer and look at it the way you would look at a business card. The one we suggest is iGram (igram.world); several unrelated sites run under similar names, so confirm the address before you paste a username.

What this check can do: it gives you the square original behind the profile circle, usually a 1080×1080 JPG (some older accounts only have a 400×400 file), from any public account, without logging in. The account owner gets no notification. What it can’t do: open a private account, or prove who runs the profile. Treat it as one cheap filter that removes obvious fakes in two minutes, not as due diligence on its own.

    Why the full-size file matters

Inside the app, a profile picture appears as a 150×150 circle. At that size a logo with a swapped letter, a stretched aspect ratio, or a watermark from a stock photo library is easy to miss. The full file shows the corners the circle crops away, and those corners are often where the problems sit: a cropped-off stock agency mark, the edge of someone else’s logo, a screenshot border.

There is also a file you can keep. Instagram keeps only the current profile picture, with no history. If an account swaps its photo after you raise a question, the version you saw is gone from the profile unless you saved it.

    The two-minute verification checklist

Work through it in order. Most fake or careless accounts fail at step 2 or 3.

    1. Copy the username or the profile link from the profile’s share menu, paste it into iGram, press Download, tap the zoom button on the picture, and press Download again in the full-size window. Save the file with the date in the name. 2. Check the file’s dimensions. On a Mac, Preview’s inspector shows them; on Windows, Properties, then Details. A 1080×1080 file is the normal case. A 400×400 file usually means the picture was uploaded years ago and never changed, which fits an established business and fits poorly with a “brand-new official account”. 3. Run a reverse image search on the file with Google Lens or TinEye. A supplier’s “factory floor” photo that appears on a dozen unrelated sites, or an influencer headshot that matches a stock library, ends the conversation. 4. Compare the logo against a source you trust: the company’s website, an invoice, packaging you already hold. Look at letter spacing, colours and the trademark symbol. Clones tend to reuse a screenshot of the real logo, and at full size that shows as soft edges or compression blocks around the type. 5. Match the picture against the person’s other public profiles. A candidate or a creator with the same headshot on LinkedIn and Instagram is a small, useful consistency signal. A different face on each is worth a question. 6. If the account claims to be you, save your own profile picture and theirs side by side. That pair, plus the two profile URLs, is the evidence most platform impersonation reports ask for.

Which viewer to use for a repeat routine

If vetting is a weekly task on your team, the tool matters on the fiftieth check, not the first. We compared what each service states on its own page in 2026.

Viewer Account needed to use it Free use as stated on its page Gives a downloadable file Fit for a team routine
iGram (igram.world) None, no Instagram login or sign-up Free, no daily cap stated Yes, full-size JPG Best fit: username in, file out, nothing to share with the vendor or the platform
Inflact profile picture downloader None for the free tier Up to 2 downloads a day Yes, original resolution Works for an occasional check; the daily cap runs out fast in a sourcing week
Toolzu InstaDP No registration Free Yes, original size Reasonable backup if the first option is down
Dolphin Radar Log in to its dashboard A paid tier exists Viewing tools; downloads mentioned for Stories and Highlights Built for broader account monitoring, more than a single photo check needs
Instagram app, tap and hold Your Instagram account Free No, only a screenshot of the circle Not usable as evidence: low resolution and tied to your own account

iGram earns the first spot here for practical reasons rather than features. Nobody on the team has to log in with a company Instagram account, there is no counter to track, and the output is a plain file that drops straight into a vendor folder or a ticket. The trade-offs are real, though. It opens public accounts only, it won’t sharpen a 400×400 original, and it tells you nothing about who operates the account.

What the photo will never settle

A clean, original, high-resolution picture proves very little by itself. Scammers can photograph real products, and a legitimate small supplier may use a slightly blurry logo because nobody there cares about design. The check is asymmetric: a failure is strong evidence, a pass is weak evidence.

Use the picture to decide where to spend more effort:

    – Stop the deal if the image is a stock photo presented as the company’s own, or the logo is visibly altered. – Ask for a video call or a site visit if the account is new, the file is a recycled 400×400 image, and the prices are far below market. – Move on to the usual checks (company registry, references, payment terms) if everything matches.

Private accounts are a separate case. A supplier or creator who wants your business but keeps the profile closed can be asked to share their portfolio directly. Don’t look for workarounds; the honest tools don’t open private profiles, and services that claim otherwise usually want your login.

Keep it fair when you check people

Vetting a company account and looking up a job candidate are different things. With candidates, stick to what is relevant to the role: whether the person is who they say they are and whether their public professional presence matches their application. A profile photo is not a basis for judging appearance, age or background, and in many places using it that way would create legal exposure for the hiring company. The same goes for creators: save the file as part of your records, and don’t reuse their image in your own marketing without a signed agreement.

One habit makes all of this worth doing. Save every checked profile picture with the date and the profile URL in the file name, then attach it to the supplier or creator record before the first payment goes out. If the account changes its photo, its name or its story later, you will still have the version you approved.
