Red Sea Days and Desert Nights in Hurghada

    OliviaBy OliviaOctober 7, 2026Updated:October 7, 2026No Comments4 Mins Read

Hurghada has a way of letting you build a holiday around whatever mood you are in. One morning you might be floating over coral reefs with a snorkel mask on, and by afternoon you are riding through the desert or wandering a quiet marina. There are so many things to do in Hurghada that no two visits ever look quite the same, whether you are drawn to the water, the sand, or a bit of both.

Why Hurghada Stands Out on the Red Sea

Hurghada grew from a small fishing village into one of Egypt’s best-known Red Sea destinations, and it still keeps that easygoing spirit. Sunny coastline, busy resorts, colorful coral reefs, and easy access to water sports all sit within reach of each other.

You are never locked into one kind of day here. Slow beach mornings and boat trips work just as well as packed schedules built around diving, snorkeling, kitesurfing, and desert safaris. The sea is the headline attraction, but the desert, nearby islands, and marinas give the destination real range.

    Get Into the Water First

Classic Hurghada experiences usually start with the sea. Clear water and healthy coral reefs make snorkeling and diving two of the most popular ways to spend a day.

A snorkeling boat trip is an easy entry point, since it needs no training and often includes reef stops along with a swim break. Giftun Island is one of the most popular day-trip choices, largely thanks to its clear water and easy access from the city. Divers who want more depth can book introduction dives with instructors, while certified divers can head to deeper reef sites.

    Head Over to El Gouna

A short drive from Hurghada, El Gouna brings a more organized rhythm to the trip. Lagoons, beaches, marinas, and restaurants sit close enough together that you can move between them without feeling rushed. Travelers looking for a slightly more polished Red Sea experience often add El Gouna to their Hurghada plans.

On the water, El Gouna offers kitesurfing at spots such as Riah Kite Academy and Makani Beach Club, diving with centers like Orca Dive Club or Blue Brother Divers, and calmer options like kayaking, sailing with Red Sea Sails, or a boat trip out to islands such as Shadwan.

Away from the shoreline, EL Gouna Land activities bring a completely different pace to the same trip. You can go horseback riding with Habiba Stable or Farah Horse Stable, try a motorsport session at Motoclub, play a round at El Gouna Golf Club, or simply walk around Abu Tig Marina and Fanadir Marina before dinner. For travelers who like a view with their thrill, aerial sightseeing with SAS Aero Sports adds a striking look at the lagoons, desert edges, and coastline from above.

    Don’t Skip the Desert

The Red Sea gets most of the attention, but the desert around Hurghada earns its own spot on the itinerary. A desert safari shows a different side of the destination, with wide-open landscapes and sunset views that feel far from the beach scene.

Depending on the operator, a safari might include:

    • A quad bike ride across the dunes
    • A jeep tour through the open desert
    • A stop at a Bedouin-style camp
    • Stargazing after dark

It is a great fit for an afternoon plan, especially after a slower morning by the water.

Slow Down at the Marinas and El Dahar

When you want a break from bookings and tours, Hurghada Marina is an easy place to spend an evening. Walk past the boats, grab food or coffee, and enjoy the sea breeze after a day outdoors.

El Dahar, Hurghada’s older district, offers a more local feel, with markets and everyday street life that contrast with the resort areas. It is less polished than the marina, and that is part of the appeal.

    Planning Tips Worth Knowing

Before locking in your schedule, choose licensed diving and snorkeling operators, especially if you are new to Red Sea activities, and always follow your guide’s instructions in the water. For kitesurfing, sailing, or boat trips, check the wind and weather ahead of time. Desert outings go more smoothly with sunglasses, comfortable clothing, and sun protection packed in advance. If El Gouna is on your list, give it enough time in the schedule to actually enjoy what it offers rather than squeezing it into a rushed half-day.

    In the End

Hurghada is more than a stretch of beach. It is a destination where the sea, the desert, the islands, and nearby towns each add something different to the trip, whether your days lean calm, adventurous, or a mix of both. Start with the water, leave room for the desert, and see where the rest of the itinerary takes you. What kind of day are you planning first?
