    Cardboard boxes, piles of paper, and cluttered storage areas create the perfect hiding places. Inspecting basements, attics, and crawl spaces reveals more signs of activity. Any small hole or opening can serve as an entry point. Sealing these areas limits access and reduces infestation risks.

    Roaches leave behind clear signs of their presence, including tiny black droppings. These waste particles are often found in kitchen drawers, cabinets, and along baseboards. Their size and shape resemble ground coffee or black pepper. The more droppings seen, the closer their hiding place is.

    Egg casings, also called oothecae, hold multiple eggs and indicate breeding sites. These casings appear in warm, hidden spaces near food and water sources. Finding discarded egg cases means a new wave of pests is on the way. Removing them quickly prevents the population from growing.

    Cockroaches thrive where food and water are easy to access. Crumbs, grease buildup, and leftover scraps attract them to kitchens. Open trash cans, dirty dishes, and pet food left out overnight make infestations worse. These pests can survive on the smallest food particles.

    Leaky pipes and standing water provide the moisture roaches need to survive. Damp basements, clogged drains, and condensation around appliances create ideal conditions. Fixing leaks and wiping away excess moisture forces them to look elsewhere. A dry, clean space reduces the appeal of an area to these pests.

    Monitor Activity During the Night

    Roaches are nocturnal and rarely come out during the day. Turning on the lights at night often reveals them scurrying across floors and walls. The kitchen, bathroom, and pantry are the most likely areas to check. Seeing just a few at night suggests a larger population hiding nearby.

    Sticky traps or bait stations help track their movement. Placing them along baseboards, behind appliances, and near sinks reveals activity patterns. The number of pests caught overnight indicates how severe the infestation is. Regular monitoring helps in deciding the next steps for control.

    Some infestations require more than home remedies and routine cleaning. If roaches keep appearing despite multiple efforts, stronger measures may be needed.
