7 Things You Can Do with the ETH in Your Wallet

    OliviaBy OliviaJuly 8, 2025Updated:July 8, 2025No Comments6 Mins Read

Ethereum (ETH) is far more than just another crypto; it is a leader within the cryptocurrency market.. Today, having ETH means being part of a much broader online network that supports everything from smart contracts to decentralized applications.. Whether it’s stored in a hardware wallet or sitting in a browser extension, ETH doesn’t need to be stagnant, as it has many functions that can be effectively used in a variety of ways. ETH may have started as a niche token, but over the years it now powers many useful tools and services.

    • 5. Buy, Sell, or Mint NFTs
    • 6. Take Part in DAOs and Vote on Decisions
    • 7. Add ETH to a Liquidity Pool and Earn Fees
    • Conclusion

    1. Use ETH to Access DeFi Tools

Decentralized finance, also referred to as DeFi, runs on Ethereum. This means ETH can be used to lend, borrow, and earn directly through platforms like Aave or Compound. Most of these platforms connect seamlessly to your wallet, allowing you to interact with DeFi without ever moving your ETH off-chain. Lending out ETH earns interest over time, while borrowing against it lets users get liquidity without selling off their position. There are also no intermediaries, which is a major benefit. This means there are no banks and no paperwork involved, but rather everything is handled just through smart contracts directly on-chain. Having a wallet gives direct access to these tools, putting control in the user’s hands while still offering many of the features of regular financial services.

    2. Pay for Services or Goods

ETH is becoming more accepted as a form of payment. An increasing number of online stores, freelancers, and platforms accept ETH directly. Most of these payments happen straight from your crypto wallet, either by connecting it to the site or scanning a QR code. Other sectors make it even simpler by offering crypto-linked debit cards that automatically convert ETH at checkout. Online casinos have also embraced this trend. Casinos that accept ETH have become increasingly popular amongst casino fans as they offer added privacy, access to thousands of provably fair games, near-instant payouts, and generous bonuses like welcome rewards, cashback offers, free spins, and VIP rewards, as well as crypto-exclusive benefits that many traditional casinos do not provide. As more platforms integrate ETH into everyday transactions, from gaming to shopping, it’s becoming a practical alternative for crypto holders who have embraced the benefits of cryptocurrencies as a method of payment.

For people who already live part of their lives online, paying with ETH can be more natural than going through a traditional bank. While it’s not yet widespread, the ability to spend ETH for real-world goods is growing bit by bit, and your wallet is often all that’s needed to complete the process.

    3. Stake ETH to Support Ethereum and Earn Rewards

Since Ethereum’s move to proof-of-stake, ETH holders can lock up their tokens and help keep the network running. In return, they receive rewards, which can be seen as similar to how traditional interest would be earned. This process is called staking, and it’s one of the most common things you can do with the ETH in your wallet if you’re planning to hold it long-term. While running a validator requires 32 ETH, many people choose to stake smaller amounts through shared pools like Lido or Rocket Pool. The rewards aren’t always massive, but they’re steady and build up over time. For those who don’t want their ETH just sitting idle, staking gives it a job to do without ever leaving the wallet.

    4. Swap ETH for Other Tokens on DEXs

One of the quickest ways to use ETH is to swap it for another token on a decentralized exchange (DEX). Sites like Uniswap and 1inch make this simple. Users connect their wallet, choose the token they want, and the trade happens directly on the blockchain. It doesn’t take much effort, and there’s no need to open an account or hand over ID documents, which means more privacy and fewer delays. ETH is often the starting point for exploring smaller projects, new ideas, or just balancing out a portfolio.

    5. Buy, Sell, or Mint NFTs

ETH is also the currency of choice for buying and minting NFTs. From digital art and music to virtual land and gaming assets, ETH plays a central role. Using the ETH in your wallet, you can connect directly to NFT marketplaces like OpenSea or Binance to collect or create. For artists, ETH covers the cost of minting. For collectors, it acts as the currency that unlocks ownership.

This use of ETH has opened doors for independent creators to reach global audiences without relying on galleries or publishers. It also gives buyers a transparent way to verify ownership and authenticity through the blockchain. Even when hype fades, the tools remain, and ETH continues to power the infrastructure behind them. NFTs might not be as appealing as they were a few years back, but the ability to use ETH in this way shows how far Ethereum has stretched beyond finance into culture and creativity.

    6. Take Part in DAOs and Vote on Decisions

ETH can also be used to join a DAO, a decentralized group that runs through smart contracts. These communities are involved in everything from managing treasuries to funding new products. Using the ETH in your wallet, you can often buy governance tokens, which give you a vote. Instead of being a bystander waiting for changes from the crypto coins themselves, ETH holders can get involved directly, influencing how projects grow or what happens next. This form of participation is not tied to a voter’s social status or location but is instead based on the value of one’s contribution, making the voting process fair and non-biased.

    7. Add ETH to a Liquidity Pool and Earn Fees

Liquidity pools are where trades happen on decentralized exchanges. One practical thing you can do with the ETH in your wallet is deposit it into a pool with another token like USDC or DAI. This earns you a share of the transaction fees. It’s not without risk, as price changes can affect the balance, but it keeps your ETH active and potentially earning.

    Conclusion

Holding ETH was once mostly about waiting for the price to rise. Today, it serves a range of practical uses across finance, art, governance, and commerce, all within the same network. Whether staking, spending, swapping, or joining a community, ETH supports a variety of real actions. For anyone with ETH in their wallet, the next step depends on their goals and how they intend to use the cryptocurrency to its full capabilities.
