    Antonio Cromartie was born in Tallahassee, Florida. He was a versatile athlete at Lincoln High School, excelling in both football and track. 

    On the football field, Cromartie was a lockdown cornerback and a dynamic playmaker on offense and special teams. During his senior season, he recorded 12 tackles, two interceptions, three punt return touchdowns, two kick return touchdowns, 450 receiving yards and a touchdown, and 242 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His performance earned him the 2002 USA Today Defensive Player of the Year award. 

    Cromartie was also a standout track athlete. He placed third in the 110-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4×100-meter relay team at the Class 5A County track meet. He also cleared 14.3 meters in the triple jump. 

    Cromartie was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was ranked sixth among cornerback prospects in the nation by Rivals.com. He participated in the 2003 U.S. Army All-American Bowl before signing with Florida State University.
