Best Salary for a Supply Chain Manager in India 2025

    OliviaBy OliviaOctober 3, 2025Updated:October 31, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

In today’s time, having a job/career that offers both financial stability and long-term growth is more important than ever. While many industries are being reshaped by automation, some professionals continue to thrive because they require human decision-making, strategy, and leadership. One such career is supply chain management.

Supply chains are the backbone of every business. Even with advanced technologies like AI and robotics, organisations still need skilled professionals who can plan, negotiate, manage risks, and optimise complex networks of people, processes, and systems. That’s why supply chain managers not only enjoy excellent career prospects but also some of the most competitive salaries in India today.

In this blog, we will look at the best salary a supply chain manager can get in India.

Salary of a Supply Chain Manager

The current salary range for supply chain managers in India is ₹18,00,000 to ₹25,00,000 per year. Meanwhile, on average, a supply chain manager in India earns between ₹20,00,000 and ₹20,00,000 annually. These numbers are higher in Tier 1 cities, followed by Tier 2 and Tier 3.

This strong compensation for supply chain managers reflects the critical role these professionals play in ensuring that businesses operate smoothly despite disruptions, fluctuating demand, or global supply chain challenges.

Now that you know the salary of a supply chain manager in India, let’s look at the roles and responsibilities they perform and more.

What Do Supply Chain Managers Do?

Supply chain managers oversee the end-to-end flow of products or services and information within an organisation. Besides that, they are also responsible for:

    1. Anticipating customer demand and ensuring resources are in place.
    2. Selecting and negotiating with suppliers for cost-effective and quality inputs.
    3. Coordinating manufacturing and ensuring efficiency.
    4. Handling warehousing, transport, and timely distribution.
    5. Responding quickly to disruptions, shortages, or bottlenecks.

How to Become a Supply Chain Manager

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to become a supply chain manager:

    1. Educational Background

A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or operations management is the standard entry point. Many also come from engineering or commerce backgrounds.

    2. Certifications and Advanced Courses

Pursuing an MBA or master’s degree with a focus on operations provides candidates with a distinct advantage. Meanwhile, certifications like the IIM Kashipur’s Executive Programme in Operations & Supply Chain Management are also a great way to build a strong foundation in supply chain management. The IIM Kashipur Operation and Supply Chain Management course curriculum includes subjects like decision modelling, Six Sigma or lean management, service operation management, project management, inventory management and control systems, strategic sourcing, logistics management, and others that equip learners with analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to develop solutions for a variety of supply chain management and design problems.

    3. Career Growth

Many start as supply chain analysts or procurement specialists and gradually progress to leadership roles, gaining exposure to various functions within procurement, logistics, and operations. The transition to mid-level and senior-level positions becomes easier due to advanced certification courses offered by renowned institutions. For instance, IIM Calcutta’s Executive Programme in Operations Management is designed for professionals transitioning to mid-senior positions who want to hone their leadership and operational skills and understanding of supply chain design, lean systems, and data-led decision-making.

    Final Thoughts

Supply chain management is a profession that strikes a balance between strategic importance, financial rewards, and long-term stability.

Even in an era dominated by AI and automation, the need for skilled professionals who can lead, adapt, and make informed decisions ensures that supply chain management will remain a thriving and future-proof career.
