Tax Benefits of Investing in SBI Mutual Fund’s Arbitrage Funds: What You Need to Know

    JustinBy JustinMarch 26, 2025Updated:April 22, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Arbitrage funds by SBI Mutual Fund are built to render investors profit from the price difference between different markets. The source of income for these funds is a combination of equity and equity-related instruments by using arbitrage to gain profit. By selling in another market at a lower price, the basic purpose of these funds is to offer investors. Moreover, SBI Mutual Fund offers help investors make the most of market inefficiencies. Thus, this type of fund is advantageous for those who would like to benefit from the tax advantages.

Understanding the Tax Benefits of Investing in SBI Mutual Fund’s Arbitrage Funds

The Arbitrage Funds of SBI Mutual Fund provide tax-efficient prospects for investment. Following are the benefits which make them an interesting investment option for investors.

    1. Tax Treatment of Arbitrage Funds: Mutual funds refer to a shared fund that endeavours to make the most out of price differences in the stock market. The funds are the main investor in stocks that help generate returns from these price differences. Also, the tax treatment of arbitrage funds is among the best compared to other equity investments. Investing in it for a more extended period means the profit is taxed as the long-term capital gain (LTCG).
    2. Short-Term Capital Gains Tax: If you sell your stake in an arbitrage fund within a year, the profit will be termed short-term capital gains (STCG). The rate of tax for the STCG from equity-oriented mutual funds such as arbitrage funds is lower. This percentage is lower than the normal income tax rates. While you still need to pay this tax in case of early selling, it is more desirable than the tax of a higher amount on other incomes, like interest from fixed deposits.
    3. No Dividend Tax: The investors of the arbitrage funds may receive dividends, which are not taxable in the hands of the investor. This implies that if you invest in SBI Arbitrage Funds and receive dividends, you won’t have to pay any tax on them directly. Nevertheless, the crucial point is that the mutual fund house should pay a dividend distribution tax (DDT) before distributing dividends. However, this is not something the investor needs to worry about.
    4. No Tax on Reinvestment of Earnings: Should one decide to reinvest earnings in SBI Arbitrage Funds, the benefit of no tax upon the reinvestment gets activated. Moreover, the income is directly reinvested in the fund, so there is no tax liability at the time of reinvestment. As a result, your investments can develop constantly without being charged taxes. It is appropriate for long-term investors who value growth through compound returns more.
    5. Tax Loss Harvesting Opportunity: It can be a possible way of reducing the amount of your overall taxes. And if the value of your investment did not generate the right ROI. In that case, you get the buy and sell units at a wandering price, and that could make you deduct the gains of the tax you pay for other investments so that the tax burden would be raised.

    Final Words

To sum up, it can be an intelligent way to earn reduced risk and returns. These funds are designed to take advantage of the price differences by offering stable returns in a volatile market. Moreover, an arbitrage fund is considered a smart choice for cautious investors who prefer to protect their investments and receive steady profits. By broadening your investment, you could get growth without many changes in the market.
