POE 2 early access launched on December 6th, there are not only 6 classes for you to choose but also rich campaigns and challenge bosses in the 3 acts. This not only makes your Path of Exile 2 journey extremely fulfilling, but also provides you with a variety of channels to farm POE 2 Currency.
The bosses in the 3 acts have their own unique appearance characteristics and combat mechanisms, so the corresponding difficulty levels are also different. In the second act, Zalmarath, The Colossus, is a relatively tough boss to defeat.
This boss not only has many available skills but also requires you to guard against it from multiple aspects. In addition, the arena range during the battle is very small, which will limit your action to a certain extent, so it has prime requirements for your mobility and sensitivity.
Of course, this does not mean that it is invincible. Next, we will provide you with some suggestions to help you win. As long as you follow these suggestions to fight, you will definitely increase your chances of winning.
Where Is Zalmarath, The Colossus?
After entering the second act of Path of Exile 2, the game will ask you to find three items to reassemble Horn of Vastiri and continue to look for beasts in the desert. To get these items, you need to explore three different areas of Vastiri, which are actually three different quests.
Different quests mean that you need to face different bosses and have different probabilities of dropping POE 2 Orbs. Among them, quest A Crown of Stone will take you to Valley of the Titans and Titan Grotto, where you will find Zalmarath, The Colossus, which is the final boss of this quest. It is actually located at the end of Titan Grotto, and you can trigger the battle with it after passing through Valley of the Titans.
In Valley of the Titans, you need to find and activate three ancient seals to unlock the way to Titan Grotto. This area is fairly large, so use checkpoints and waypoints to take breaks as you explore. Once you enter the depths of Titan Grotto, you’ll encounter Dais of Reckoning, where Zalmarath is waiting for you.
Basic Battle Plan
The arena you’re in with Zalmarath is relatively small throughout the fight, and will continue to get smaller as the fight progresses. Additionally, many of the boss’s attacks will cover a large portion of the arena, so you’ll have to position yourself well in advance if you want to win.
Zalmarath deals mostly physical damage, but some of his attacks deal fire and lightning. So when planning for this fight, having the highest level of armor will help you take less damage from Zalmarath.
While improving your defense, it’s a good idea to consume Exalted Orbs POE 2 before entering the fight to add random affixes to your offensive gear to increase its strength and allow them to deal more damage to Zalmarath.
How To Defeat The Boss By Targeting His Skills?
During the fight, Zalmarath will use unique skills to attack, and you need to deal with them one by one according to their characteristics.
1. Sword Stab
He will first stab into the arena by using Sword Stab. When Zalmarath raises his sword, you need to dodge in time to avoid the stab. This attack is relatively easy to dodge, but it will cause high damage if you are unlucky enough to be hit.
2. Lightning Bolt
When using this skill, Zalmarath will move in a fixed range of a quarter circle at the edge of the arena, while firing waves of projectiles at you. To avoid these projectiles, you need to move to the other side of the arena and move in the same direction as Zalmarath.
3. Arm Sweep
As the name of the skill implies, Zalmarath will sweep his arm across the arena, and if you are caught during this period, he will drag you and damage you at the same time.
Since this attack has a fairly large range, if you find that you really can’t avoid his arm, try to run in the opposite direction to avoid being hit.
4. Falling Debris
This skill allows Zalmarath to fire lasers at the ceiling, causing debris to fall around the arena. It’s worth noting that one piece will be larger than the others and will shave off the portion of the arena it lands on.
Fortunately, these falling pieces will indicate where they’ll land by spinning circles of dust on the ground. You can avoid the debris by following these circles to avoid damage.
5. Stone Wave
After casting Stone Wave, Zalmarath will slam his arm, firing a wave of rocks that can damage you. But before doing so, Zalmarath will raise his arm into the air and slam it, which you can use as a signal to avoid. Be careful, the boss will sometimes use this attack twice in a row, so be prepared to dodge again to avoid losing all your efforts.
6. Laser
Zalmarath can fire lasers to deal damage in a fixed area. Most of the time, this attack will be fired straight down without moving, but sometimes the boss will turn around and direct the laser in a sweeping motion. Luckily, Zalmarath’s lasers usually start close to his body and move outward, giving you plenty of time to dodge.
7. Fire Tendrils
This skill essentially has Zalmarath slam his fist to create tendrils of fire that damage you as they move. These tendrils move randomly, which makes it hard to dodge them, so you have to watch the path of the tendrils and try to move to a safe spot.
Zalmarath will then repeat a series of attacks until you defeat him. Since parts of the arena are peeling off by falling rubble, the longer the fight goes, the harder it will be to dodge Zalmarath’s attacks.
Whether you’re playing melee or ranged, the best strategy for this fight is to stay close to Zalmarath. Many of his attacks are actually easier to dodge the closer you are to him, such as Sword Stab and Arm Sweep. Also, the most important attack to avoid is the massive lasers. And once Zalmarath leaves his sword, be sure to get behind his sword, otherwise you may die instantly.
Overall, this fight can be difficult, but it’s not impossible to win. All of Zalmarath’s attacks are avoidable. You just need to get used to his attack mechanics and timing, and keep trying. Eventually, you will defeat him and obtain POE 2 Divine Orb and Flame Ruby that may drop.
We hope that these suggestions we provide can really help you! I wish you a merry game and a quick completion!
